About Cooking Calculations
Recipe Scaling:
When scaling recipes, the calculator multiplies all ingredient amounts by the ratio of desired servings to original servings. For example, doubling a recipe (4 to 8 servings) multiplies all ingredients by 2.
Measurement Conversions:
- Volume: 1 cup = 16 tablespoons = 48 teaspoons = 240 ml
- Weight: 1 pound = 16 ounces = 453.6 grams
- These are approximate - ingredient density affects exact conversions
Temperature Conversions:
- Fahrenheit to Celsius: (°F - 32) × 5/9
- Celsius to Fahrenheit: (°C × 9/5) + 32
- Gas marks are approximate temperature ranges
Cooking Time Adjustments:
The calculator uses an approximate formula where time is inversely proportional to temperature difference. However, actual cooking times depend on many factors including food thickness, moisture content, and altitude.
